Zudem wurde das Weihnachtsgeschäft von den neuen Konsolen der Konkurrenz beherrscht: Im November brachte Sony die Playstation 4 auf den Markt und Microsoft die Xbox One. Nach bisherigen Zahlen hatte Sony in den ersten Wochen die Nase vorn: Sony verkaufte bis Jahresende 4,2 Millionen Geräte und Microsoft kam auf gut drei Millionen. Allerdings gab es bei beiden Konsolen zeitweise Engpässe im Handel.
