By Ann Wickett News Editor The drilling phase of the niobium mining project near Elk Creek this past year, has proven to have a positive impact on local economy in the Tecumseh area as crew workers from the drilling rigs frequently eat breakfast and lunch at local restaurants, stop in to get supplies at Kerner True Value, stay in area motels and rent houses in the Tecumseh and Elk Creek area. Phil Juilfs, manager of Kerner True Value, said the drilling phase has had a very positive impact on True Value’s business and he expects this impact to be even better as the project becomes more developed. Initially, crew members working on the niobium drilling project came into True Value to purchase lumber to build boxes for displaying the core that was drilled. As the drilling phase progressed, maintenance crews have come in for supplies on a daily basis. Juilfs said this could increase to two to three times a day as the project continues to develop. “It’s definitely been a good thing,” he said.
